Environmental Programme

Protecting sea turtles and coral reefs means protecting the land they depend on. On an island like Tioman, what happens on shore flows directly into the sea, so conservation has to reach beyond wildlife into how the whole community lives.

Our recycling programme began in 2013, collecting plastic bottles and aluminium cans before they could reach Tioman's ecosystems. It now works with businesses and partners across Juara, sorting recyclables at our Waste Management Station before transport to the mainland.

We believe waste should be treated as a resource wherever possible, not simply removed.

Our Impact

Looking to the Future

Our vision reaches beyond recycling. We want to help build better environmental systems across Juara and support partners in adopting sustainable practices.

Future goals include:

  • Expanding recycling infrastructure and waste recovery rates.

  • Promoting composting and improved wastewater management.

  • Growing marine debris and ghost net removal programmes.

  • Developing new ways to turn recycled materials into conservation resources.

By working with local businesses, residents, volunteers, and visitors, we hope to create practical solutions that benefit both the community and the environment.

Our Long-Term Commitment

A hatchling can survive every challenge in the nest, only to meet plastic in the ocean. A healthy reef can still decline if water quality drops. Protecting wildlife means caring for the wider environment that wildlife depends on.

For us, sustainability is not a separate project. It is an essential part of conservation, and a key step towards keeping Juara a place where people and nature thrive together.
