All contributions go 100% directly into this project.
No taxing, no middle men; straight to the beach, straight to the turtles.
Thank you!

Volunteer Experience
Volunteers have been the driving force behind getting this project to where it is now, and we continue to rely on them for carrying it into the future. The volunteer program here is open date, so come when you like for as long as you like. We recommend at least one week so that you can have a solid experience. While here, there will be some responsibilities, and then an infinite amount of activities or projects you can get involved in if you choose. The possibility of activities here is only limited by your imagination and motivation.
There are two main aspects of contribution with the volunteer program: Financial and Physical. The physical is pretty self explanatory but it is for real. Please come willing to work and to push yourself to do your best, as we must do everything from raking the beach and cleaning the dishes, to creating a safe turtle haven out of Tioman Island. The financial input is also a large part of helping the project continue, we hope you understand that. We do hope you feel a sense of pride or acceptance of contribution when putting money towards this project, as many of our past volunteers and visitors have told us they feel.
Basic price is RM120 per day per person, which includes breakfast and lunch; a bed and bathroom in a comfortable room, full involvement in what is going on here, and buys 'you' some healthy free turtles in the ocean. If your stay is going to be for an extended amount of time we can work out a long term pricing with you. Breakfast and lunch are provided to an extent of your choosing (with-in reason), egg and toast to takeout/ restaurant food. We do not have a specialized cook on site, but cook for ourselves. Dinners are either bought in-town or we collaborate on costs and cook at the Project for ourselves.
The Volunteer Program is less strict programing, but more like you live and work here. We will schedule to get you an extended set of experiences while you are here, and the days are filled with site, or research projects driven by necessity and motivation.
Beaches need to be monitored, hatchery compounds need to be checked, data needs to be collected and sorted, and tourist visitors could be made aware that this tropic island they are enjoying so much is actually in total decline from its state not only ten years ago.
Around the site devices and systems are needed, effective awareness materials need to be created, our gardens don't completely feed us yet so there is still more work to be done there. Jungle material construction for the yard and turtle area is fun, or just see what projects the staff is up to and help them. Also please take off time for yourself and do something that you want to do, we wont be offended.
Be sure to check out the 'pictures' and 'news' sections on this website to see what goes on here. Email us with any questions.

School Group Programs
School groups can come and stay with us here at the Turtle Project. We offer education and hands on experience with Sea Turtle conservation, biology, and outdoor skills. We will work with your schedule and needs to fill up students' days here with fun education and learning experiences. Your programs can be structured leaning towards conservation or with more focus on recreation and outdoor education. This is a small and natural environment that can really drive home the beauty of nature and why it is important to take care of our planet. We can offer beneficial experiences for younger students just opening their eyes to the natural world, or to older students looking to pitch in and help with an environmental cause. Look also at the Partnership link to Little Planet Experiences as they work with us to complete and run your students experience.
Without Physically coming here, school classes or groups can also become involved with us from your location, wherever it may be. Your involvement is up to you, but we can work together to come up with some appropriate ideas for your group.
Here are a few examples of Involvement Activities. The success of these activities is personal involvement from your end and ours together, and communication via email or potentially blog updates.
Class nest sponsorship
Class could fund-raise to sponsor one or more turtle nests. We can then provide photos and information about the full cycle of that nest. We can focus the information for what your interests may be; for example Biology, Statistics, Math, Independent Studies, Thesis Papers, Sociology, or others.
Tioman as Case Example
Tioman Island is a small area with many influences active on it. Natural and developmental being some of the largest, also the wants and expectations of people that come here.
The Island, along with the turtles situation, can be used to examine/ study sustainability options, the results of non-sustainability, or potentials of sustainability and how these options can dramatically effect different aspects of the environment here.
English Practice
Any communication about the topics here on Tioman can involve practice of English. Students creating questions to ask us, our replies and any questions or ideas we ask the students about.
We look forward to any involvement and communication about conservation, Sea Turtles or sustainability. Please contact us via Email for and clarifications, questions or comments.
Group Programs & Accommodations
The Juara Turtle Project runs a functioning hatchery and awareness program. It is a beautiful and functional location for many activities or meetings. We have chalets for housing, a kitchen, yard, beach, and communal deck area for the use of any group looking to take advantage of this quiet natural and innate location for their use. If you have a group that would like to go to a quiet retreat you can make the most of this location and facility, and know that the accommodation costs are going directly into a conservation effort. Food can be provided or a kitchen made available. You can fully set your own schedule or have us work with you during activity ideas. Our turtle hatchery and conservation work can also be opened up to your group as well as concepts in environmental awareness and sustainable living.
